President Jonathan would definitely NOT run for office in 2019: Labaran Maku
28 Jan 2013

Abuja– The Federal Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, has categorically stated that President Goodluck Ebeble Jonathan will not be standing for office again in 2019.
This clarification comes amidst growing uncertainty over the President’s political ambition after the end of his current tenure.
Mr Maku, reacting to what he described as wild and unfounded speculations by enemies of progress and paid propagandists, also reminded Nigerians to respect the President’s privacy as, according to him, “None of you would take kindly to people insisting on knowing what your intentions are, so why do you think you have a right to know what is on the President’s mind?”
Mr Maku was particularly unimpressed with so-called social-activists, who “take to twitter and other internet platforms like BB to spread their fabrications concerning whether or not the President will run in 2019.”
According to him, “The President has the best record by far, for observing the law and respecting the constitution of Nigeria: He would never in a thousand years stand for re-election after his second elected term in office, as the constitution does not allow for this.”
Stressing the President’s unwavering habit of taking the constitution into consideration – unlike past rulers, Mr Maku noted that even if, come 2019, Nigerians are begging the President to run again like they are doing now, Mr President would only consider agreeing to their demand (and humbly, for that matter) if the constitution is duly changed to allow him stand for office again.
