Bill Clinton advised GEJ not to rename UNILAG

Lagos – A few hours after President Jonathan rescinded his unilateral decision to rename University of Lagos, and a day after he met former American President Bill Clinton in Lagos, there are speculations as to what inspired his change of mind.

President Jonathan had earlier invoked the wrath of UNILAG students and alumni who feared they would loose their swagger if, as GEJ threatened to do, their beloved school was renamed to Moshood Abiloa University.

Following announcement that UNILAG’s name is not now going to change, it has been suggested that President Clinton, while discussing with President Jonathan, expressed his view on the name changing palaver, and this, rather than pressure from civilians, led GEJ to decide to leave UNILAG’s name alone.
