Move over Branjelina, here comes GeniBanj!
Lagos – In true Hollywood style, Nigeria’s answer to Brangelina, Genevieve Nnaji and D’Banj AKA GeniBanj, are rumoured to be in the process of adopting a baby that is not of their own race – a white child.
Hollywood was first to make the adoption of #black kids trendy but the fashion statement has now crossed the Atlantic and a race is now on for the first Nollywood star to adopt a white child.
Rumour has it that the secretive couple, Genevieve and the Koko Master, have secretly been browsing dozens of internet sites looking for an agency that handles the adoption of Caucasian children by black folk. So far, their efforts have yielded no results.
Rumour also has it that the couple who are permanently in denial, recently sneaked out of the country disguised as a nun and a tout, and visited Kosovo in search of a white kid to adopt.
If there is any credence to this rumour, it calls attention to a worrisome development that is the use of adopted babies as accessories.
Many have questioned the sense behind allowing Madona to adopt an African baby, fort instance, but even as there are those who oppose intra-race adoptions, there are also those who support the likes of Angelina Jolie and her Brad Pitt.
An argument often put forward is that the children in question are likely to have better chances in life than they would, had they been left in the orphanages in their home countries.
If Genevieve and D’Banj succeed in their quest however, they would be the first black couple on this side of the Atlantic to adopt a white child, and their feat would lead to an avalanche of serious questions.
For instance, is it fair on a child, white or black, to grow up with the Koko Master as its father?
