Saharareporters to replace NTA

Soon to become Saharareports TV
Lagos – As part of ongoing efficiency changes, the government of President Goodluck Jonathan has received a recommendation suggesting that the nation’s bedevilled national media network, NTA, be scrapped and replaced with news feeds from Saharareporters.
The government had earlier put together a panel of very intelligent Nigerians to draw up strategies on how to improve the countries failing infrastructure.
The select committee was expected to submit as their first deliverable, a blue print on sorting out the power problem. But after a short deliberation amongst the members, they decided that resolving the electricity situation was beyond anyone’s power bar God.
In presenting their recommendation, the group pointed out that online news sources such as saharareporters.com have proven to be more effective at delivering current and accurate news than NTA, and as such, the federal government would save a tidy sum by simply subscribing to the website’s RSS feeds.
The committee further suggested that feeds from Saharareporters.com should be supplemented with content from bellanaija.com and lindaikeji.blogspot.com, with running commentaries provided by nairaland.com.
The recommendations have however not gone down well with some highly placed government officials who immediately called for the members of the committee to be placed under arrest.
Indeed it is believed that it is this directive that led to the detention at Murtala Mohammed Airport of veteran journalist and English professor, Okey Ndibe, who is a regular contributor on Saharareporters.com.
Speaking under conditions of anonymity, a senior member of the fast depleting ruling party said of the recommendation:
“They might as well tell us to replace the police with OPC, or prayer warriors with doctors, or the President with the governor of Oyo state. Rubbish! Absolute rubbish!”
